Delicate landscaping and intricate architectural detailing are finely crafted to perfection in the physical model.
and we’ve created a phenomenal physical model measuring approximately 60″x84″ overall, portraying the world-class Montage Resort — one of California’s most luxurious and grand developments on the last remaining iconic sites of the southern Pacific Coast Highway. The highly detailed site model was instrumental in achieving a favorable referendum vote, paving the way for the development to proceed. Scrutinized by local community groups, government officials and a not-so-shy public with vested interests, it was imperative from the onset that extraordinary measures would be taken for the model to reflect the true essence of the existing landscape and terrain, and to capture the elegance of the developer’s solution for the revitalization of one of the region’s most beloved pieces of land.
Accordingly, prior to embarking on the construction of the model, several visitations to the site were required to study and carefully document the unique Pacific coastal features in order to portray them accurately within the model. Even included on the model, precisely placed, are the two palm trees (Desi & Lucy) perched high on top of the bluff, named after Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball, two of the first residents of the original Treasure Island Trailer Park that occupied the original site for more than 70 years. Faithfully portraying the intricate craftsman style design, The Montage Resort Model brilliantly depicts the seamless blend of architecture, art and the rocky Pacific Coast seascape.
“The project was unanimously approved by the California Coastal Commission (CCC),”
— says Susan Whitin, president of the Laguna-based firm Whitin Design Works, which consulted on the landscape concept of the masterplan.
